Web Gems

Sites worth knowing, including some of my own

THERE ARE SO MANY WEBSITES it is impossible to keep up with all the good ones. I’ve selected a few of my current favorites.

BirdingBusiness.com
Yes, Birding Business has a new Web site. The site features up-to-the-minute industry news and product releases, the online version of the Buyer’s Guide, and articles from the magazine. Sign up for the coming e-mail newsletter or the RSS feed. Combined with this magazine, it is your best source for industry information.

LivingBird.org
The Cornell Lab of Ornithology’s new Living Bird Web site is a thing of beauty and will not remain in the hidden category for long. Living Bird magazine has long been a premier bird publication and the new online version features audio and video recordings.

ProfessorBird.com
The Professor Bird site is dedicated to questions and answers about wild birds. It currently features over 200 questions, many of which include images, audio, video and animated files as part of the answers. Site visitors can submit their wild bird-related questions. Selected questions are added to the searchable database for the site. (ProfessorBird.com is part of my own network of Web sites.)

Quantcast.com
Quantcast is one of several Internet ratings services. The site provides traffic information on millions of Web sites, including traffic, basic demographics of site visitors, and keywords used to find a specific site. It’s a good place to check out your own Web site and compare it to others in your market. The site is currently free.
